The Client: I met Melissa Snodgrass years ago in person at Notary Symposium (an annual conference I help organize). Melissa is a busy notary in Ventura County, CA.
What Happened: When I designed Melissa's first website, I used a theme and child theme that was at the top of the "Theme Food Chain" at the time. But that's the thing with websites; there is no such thing as design it one time and forget about it. The plugins that are used on most websites continue to get updates over time, and the themes, and the WordPress software (PHP) itself. Plus, during that time, WordPress went through some very heavy changes - the theme was no longer compatible and needed to be swapped out.
Tech Side: Although Melissa understood the importance of needing to change the theme, she wanted to spend a minimal amount on it. I kept the Genesis parent theme, but chose a new 2.0 child theme that was written for the newer version of WordPress. She was able to get an improved website, but at an economical cost. We added some content to the Services page, and made a few edits to the Home page to be more Search Engine friendly.
This client keeps a KMS Care Plan in place, which allows her peace of mind not worrying about backups, updates, monthly minutes towards making changes, and much more.
